“World Book Day changes lives through a love of books and shared reading”
Today is World Book Day and while it’s a shame that it hasn’t fallen on a day which we’re all in school together, it doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate it at home.
Activities could include:
– dressing up as one of your favourite book characters (We would love to see your pictures, please email me)
– having a look at the PowerPoint (attached below), with information about World Book Day and why we celebrate it. W B D was created by UNESCO in 1995 as a worldwide celebration of books and reading and, as we are a Rights and Respecting School, it is important that we celebrate it.
– having a go at the quiz that we made (see Google classroom)
– filling out the Book Scavenger Hunt (attached below). We would usually raid the library but you’ll have to see if you can hunt through your own books.
– having a look for your own activities on the World Book Day website. They have loads of resources on there! – https://www.worldbookday.com/
– If you need some inspiration, think about some of the books we’ve all read in school. Some of the books we’ve read include: Once Upon an Ordinary School Day, The Day the Crayons Quit, The Twits, Stuck, The First Drawing, Stone Age Boy, How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth, and we started reading Stig of the Dump.

Thank you to those children who completed the quiz/data collection on Google Classroom before half-term. It was really helpful as it means we have lots of information to use over the next couple of weeks during our Statistics unit. It’s a shame not to be doing this one altogether in school as it’s one of our favourite units but we’re sure you’ll all still enjoy it. This week’s lessons are all re-cap lessons from Year 2, which must seem like ages ago now.
Well done to those who began to plan their Roman Myth stories for English before half-term. Don’t worry if you didn’t get round to planning it before, as you can make a quick plan this week before you begin writing. You will be writing up your story over the next few days and then Friday, you’ll be editing and improving it. We will not be marking your writing when you send this in because of the editing lesson at the end of the week.
This week, R.E is all about the Easter story as we are now in Lent, which is the build-up to Easter. In P.S.H.E, you will be looking at the West Rise character trait ‘Love of Learning.’ In History, you’ll be looking at the invasion attempts on Britain. I wonder if any of you are able to remember which Emperor’s tried to invade Britain and who was the successful Emperor.
Keep an eye out for a message from us, which we will send out via Ping or on Google Classroom, about items you may need next week for a Maths lesson and an English lesson.
