Welcome to Term 6 😊

Wow, Term 6

Good Morning 3P, I hope you are all well and enjoyed half-term. Remember if you would like to, you can send me some photos of what you have been doing.

I have really been enjoying the beautiful weather, going to the beach and celebrating my daugther’s birthday. I made her a big cookie cake to celebrate.

I really can’t believe that it is term 6.

Each week we will update the blog with 3 posts: one with times tables for the week’ one with spellings to learn and one with some projects to do, so remember to scroll through to see them all!

  • In the project post, there will be some tasks from White Rose, which is the Maths scheme we follow in school so the tasks will be things we would have been learning in class.
  • There will also be some activities taken from our English/Topic question ‘What is a journey?’
  • Finally, we will post the Science activity for the week taken form the Empiribox scheme we follow at school.

Don’t forget to email me 3P@westrise-jun.e-sussex.sch.uk and show us what you are doing at home. I love to see your beautiful work and lovely smiling faces😊

Just incase you haven’t seen this….

Times Tables

3 x table

Your challenge is to practice them over the week, try mixing them up though, so you don’t just learn them in order.

Some ideas of how to practice are: you could write them out, stick them around the house or ask someone to say them for you.

If you think of any inventive ways to practice, comment at the bottom of this post to share with us!

Remember speed is key, so the idea is to keep getting faster.

Remember you can also use, ‘Hit the Button’ on the Topmarks website.

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button

Extension: Can you work out the related facts? (11 x 3 = 33 / 33 ÷ 11 = 3)

At the end of the week, ask someone to test you and if you possibly can, time it – you can then comment on the blog the time you managed to do them in!

At the end of the week, ask someone to test you and then, if you want to, you can comment below to let us know how you got on.

Week 1

Task 1

Journeys

In Term 6, we are focusing on ‘Journeys.’ In school, we would be reading and looking at the journey that Little Red Riding Hood took, as well as discussing the different versions of the story. I’m sure most of you know the story but below is a PDF with one version, just in case:

Activity 1

Write a short paragraph describing this image. What adjectives could you use? Can you describe what Little Red Riding Hood sees, hears, smells or feels?

Activity 2

Create a Wanted poster for the character of the Big Bad Wolf. The children loved this task last year and if you’re unsure of what a wanted poster looks like, then have a look at the PDF below for an example of how to structure it:

Activity 3

Write a diary entry from Little Red Riding Hood. You may wish to plan your diary first before you write it, like we do in class. Think about how you begin a diary entry. What features does a diary entry need? Can you include adjectives, imperative verbs and adverbs?

EXT: Can you include time, place and cause conjunctions?

Task 2

White Rose Maths

On the White Rose website, there is a Home Learning lesson for each day and a Maths challenge on a Friday. These will follow the learning we would have been doing in class so it would be great if the children could follow this. If you would like to go back and start on an earlier week then that is also fine.

We are in Summer Term – Week 6 (W/C 1st June) as you can see below.

End of Term 5

Half Term | Ranikhet Academy

Message from Mr Fairclough

Dear Parents and Carers

Thank you for participating so well with our online provision so far, we have loved seeing the amazing work your children have been sending us.

For your information, over half term (next week), teachers will be spending their time with their families and therefore will take a break from updating and checking the blogs and setting work on MyMaths, but after the break this will resume.

I hope you and your children have an enjoyable half term and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Mr Fairclough

Events for May 31, 2017

I hope you all have a lovely week, I look forward to seeing your photos of the fun things you get up to over the half term,

Lots of Love Mrs Poore 😎

Good Morning 3P 😊

I went to the beach and was thinking about our lovely class

WATCH this, We miss you all very much….

Hello, I hope you are all ok. This is the last week of Term 5 and I thought you might like to see a few things I have been up to in the last week. I have been practising my drawing on youtube with ‘draw with Rob’, I made Millionaires Shortbread (Its my husbands favourite) and I have painted some rocks with my children to make our Lockdown rainbow. I have also enjoyed running and some walks to the beach.

It’s now week five and we have some new tasks for you to complete. Well done to everyone who has completed work, remember you can email me your pictures. Have a look in the 3P news section to see what your class mates have been up to.

Those of you that were in school on the last few days will remember that we planted some potatoes. This is what they look like at the moment. I’m sure we will have some potatoes ready to eat soon.

Just a reminder, we will colour code our posts:

  • Pink means you have a something to comment about – make sure you comment about the right thing on the right post (for example, any comment about times tables needs to be on the times tables post).
  • Purple means there is a task for you to do.  We have a new class email address so that you can send in your work and we can share it on the blog.  It is:  3P@westrise-jun.e-sussex.sch.uk  I will check this at least once a day, so get sharing!  Don’t worry if you aren’t able to email – just make sure you keep hold of your work, because when we return to school we will have a massive show and tell session!

Right let’s go… Now check out the posts below…

Week 5

Task 1

The Romans

We have now reached the end of our Roman Topic so this will be our final Roman piece of work. This week we wanted to give you a choice of activities to do. Please complete as many as you wish.

Activity 1 – Roman Mosaics

Please read the information about mosaics and find out five more of your own facts. Then, design and draw your own mosaic pattern or picture. You could even cut out some collage materials for your own tesserae to use to help you create your design.

Activity 2 – Roman Villa

Make a model Roman Villa with under-floor heating.

The richest Romans lived in fine houses which we know as ‘villas’. Just like today, the owners liked to make their houses look special, building them to fit their needs and to show off their wealth. Use the simple floor plan and illustration as the basis for your villa. But remember that you can vary the design depending on what sized boxes you have and to make the villa your own, just like the Romans did.

Activity 3 – Roman Leaflet / Poster

Using the information below and any prior knowledge, please create an information leaflet or poster all about the Romans.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/school-radio/history-ks2-romans-index/zvgk47h

Task 2

Time Capsule

Interview your parents

For this task I would like you to talk to your grown ups, ask them some of these questions and record you answers about how your grown ups are finding lockdown. Remember to keep these pieces of paper safe to put in our time capsule when we return to school.

Task 3

Here’s M.B enjoying the science investigation

‘Who managed to make butter last week? Well done to all those scientists who did! If not head on back to last week’s Science Blog and see how!

This week we will be investigating something very different! We will be looking at Rocks!

As before, the video offers you three options; planning, recording and evaluating. Our focus is the third but if you want to practise your planning and recording skills to that would be amazing!

Rocks

I would love to see the before and after shots of your rocks!’

Task 4

This is just a reminder about MyMaths, Topmarks and other websites you can use for your home learning. It is also important to get some exercise, you could have a look online at cosmic kids and have a go at some yoga, follow Joe Wicks at 9am each morning or can you march around your house like a Roman, maybe your grown-ups could give you some commands.

Task 5

Virtual School Games

Here’s P.T doing the football challenge…

The next activity is…..gym and fitness
